By Uncategorized

We love everything HGTV – and one show we find particularly interesting is Tiny Homes! Did you know that there is a company in Calgary that actually builds tiny homes? It’s called ZeroSquared – and they will be at the Edmonton Home and Garden show this weekend! Join us here for a little tour of their company…

The biggest advantage about tiny homes is that you have more freedom, time and money to spend doing other things besides maintaining your house. It also is beneficial that you can pick up and  go wherever you please! ZeroSquared understands that downsizing can achieve a “greater quality of life,” and they sure know how to make it easy for you. This group realized there was less stress when living this type of lifestyle, however they couldn’t find any tiny homes that suited their style or needs. So, they decided to create something that did!

What about Alberta winters? Are these homes fit to keep out the cold? You bet they are – they use environmentally friendly building panels that “keep the inside in and the outside out.” The kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom are luxurious and spacious enough that you won’t be missing your old home! A list of upgrades makes it easy to personalize your tiny home to cater to your needs. 374 Square Feet has never felt so spacious!

Make sure you visit ZeroSquared at the Home and Garden Show this weekend! Check out their website in the mean time here : http://zerosquared.ca/

HOME MAINTENANCE TIPS

Check + Replace Old/Worn Weather Stripping – Keep the cold out and reduce your heating bill!  If caulking looks worn, remove and re-caulk with an efficient, moisture-resistant product.

Seal Gaps – Look for small gaps near the foundation or windows, check for loose frames and cracked panes. Keep the critters out by making sure all the window screens are secure and not damaged

Exteriors – Inspect the exterior for any cracks in the finishing to avoid costly repairs later down the road.

A/C Units – If you have a window A/C unit (and haven’t already removed it!) make sure to do so and place an insulated cover over it to protect your home from the elements.

Test CO2 + Smoke Detectors – easy to forget, but very important to remember to check!

Change Direction of Ceiling Fans – this creates an upward draft and redistributes warm air from the ceiling.

Clean Rain Gutters – the summer and autumn lead to a huge build-up of debris in the gutters – especially in the older, well-treed neighbourhoods! Cleaning out the gutters before the winter makes for a breezy summer transition as the snow melts off the roof.

Inspect Roof – Replacing  and repairing damaged shingles before the winter moisture is a much cheaper investment and makes for a stress-free winter in your home!

Store All Outdoor Furniture + Grills – leaving your patio furniture and BBQ out for the winter can lead to unnecessary damage and replacement costs.

Inspect Driveway – check for cracks and fill with sealer when needed.

Exposed Water Pipes – make sure that the water to outdoor pipes has been turned off and drained to avoid bursting, frozen pipes.
